They all need it. They all deserve it.

Newt Gingrich's chickens will be coming home to roost in 2019.

He's not going to be tripping to Europe for the vermeers. His Crawford people are enough for the task.

Whether you like him or not shouldn't be an issue (and I don't like him as President).
He is the President and has been for eight years (somehow).

I will stand up when he comes in the room, I will address him as Mr. President and I will readily agree he deserves lifetime protection.

It's been awhile since I read about this (the actual news of them not giving lifetime security is at least a few years old).

But I believe the reasoning for the cutback was financial. They may also have said the ranks were stretched a little thin with lifetime detail.

I also believe the news came out when there were more ex-Presidents living.

Too bad other people who visit this board don't have that kind of class about their government and the office of President of the United States.

Right. Cause you're all about the class, Hondo.

    Don't like the president

But you always have to respect the office. Of course he merits protection.

These guys can protect themselves just fine, thank you.

I'm curious. Has any former president been the target of anyone (a known attempt)? I can't think of any off the top of my head, and I find that a little strange.

Nothing comes to mind either. I think terrorists would want to attack the office, rather than the man.

At any rate, the President should still get lifetime security.

I wonder what the security detail consists of tho. Do they just get it when they have a public appearance? Is someone stationed at their home 24/7?
