Seriously though, those guys couldn't get aircover to prevent their capture? If a Naval vessel is about to be boarded or escorted to port, should the US have done something to prevent it?

You would think so. The crew of the Pueblo surely felt the same way.

Wonder why Iran wants it so bad. Maybe they have some special projects for it or something? Weird.

Not this administration. Kerry should let Iran have the two boats for turning our soldiers over after shaming them.

It's been estimated it will cost Iran $100 billion plus just to rebuild its oil and gas sector. But, sure, everyone should be very afraid.

We are not at war with Iran. A naval vessel retains its sovereign immunity even if it is suffering from engine trouble or has inadvertently crossed into another nation’s territorial waters, both of which appear to have happened this week.

So, for the record, if an Iranian boat had suffered a mechanical failure and come nonthreateningly into American waters, accompanied by another Iranian vessel attempting to render aid, we would not have: stripped the Iranians of their gear, at gunpoint, and forced them to their knees; made a video of same, for use as propaganda; ransacked their property, possibly including sensitive communications gear; forced them to wear clothing that suited our religious sensibilities; detained them overnight, while interrogating members of the crew on camera; and finally released edited footage in an effort at humiliation.

None of this was “standard nautical practice,” as Vice President Joe Biden claimed. Nor was it something for which we should thank the government of Iran, as Secretary of State Kerry was quickto do, while claiming that the sailors had been “well taken care of.” Presumably neither man had seen the footage released by Iran when they made those remarks, but the mere fact that the sailors and their boats had been kept overnight should have been concerning enough to give them pause. Even without its more theatrical elements, the detention alone was objectively a hostile act, despite surreal protests to the contrary from the U.S. government.

Are you using italics because you are quoting someone else above?

Either way, why would you -- or the Iranians -- believe that the vessels truly were suffering from engine trouble and/or they crossed into Iranian waters inadvertently?

Isn't that what you were say if you were caught sneaking in there for whatever reason?

We've dropped bombs that unleashed death and destruction on hundreds of thousands of innocent people across the Middle East, and the angry old white men get their panties in a wad that Iran made a female sailor wear a headscarf? You can feel these angry old white men's open disappointment that the sailors weren't frogmarched out onto a beach and their heads then chopped off their jumpsuited bodies.

    1) This is a boat that went from international waters into Iranian waters. Why would Iran approach the boats, demand the sailors put their hands over their heads and get on their knees? The way to approach it is find out what is going on and assist them in any way possible.

    2) Why would they videotape them? That most certainly is a breach of the convention and a war crime. As the father of a sailor it made my blood boil to see one of OUR sailors being used for propaganda like that.

    3) IF Iran is a "friend of ours now" and IF our place in the world and the respect around the world is SO GREAT now because of Obama, WHY would this happen? Why would American sailors be treated this way?

Col. Ralph Peters was 100% correct about Obama, he's a spineless coward and so is John Kerry. This administration is filled with inept wusses and they are an embarrassment.
