Let's see:

Our guys fuck up and get in their waters.

They capture our guys, hold them for a day or so, call them a few names, don't physically harm them, and then release them.

We should start bombing their bases because our guys fucked up.

Yep.

Maybe instead of releasing them, Iran should have let them become dual citizens and thrown them a wild Iranian party.

I'm sure diplomatic dinner parties were canceled as a result of what happened. If things get serious, we'll see a sharply worded UN resolution or letter of protest.

Horseshit. Given the incident was our own damn fault, there's no reasonable justification for responding to it by blowing up bases of those not at fault.

But, I'll concede I've not read all articles in "recent days", so you'll have to update me with the links to which you refer. But I do have an idea how we would've responded if the roles had been reversed: if an Iranian military vessel ever dared illegally enter US territory anywhere near striking distance of the American people, we'd blow that motherfucker to smithereens. So, regardless of what your links show, I'm confident it's a more measured response than we would've given them for the same transgression.
