Iowa State beat writer injured during court storming

Iowa State beat Iowa 83-82 in basketball tonight and fans stormed the court.

Des Moines Register beat writer Randy Peterson got caught in the middle.

These idiots come storming over the table, it's like seven little Dutch boys trying to plug a dike.

 

I'm not normally a pearl clutcher on this type of thing, but in the past few years Iowa State has had this and a fan go after a coach, plus there was an incident at K-State last year.

You'd think the Big 12 would be about ready to start fining schools for fans getting on the court.

 

What sucks is when journos are used as barricades. Of course, I'm sure they'd rather be courtside than upstairs - or maybe not. But I'm sure he has a reasonable lawsuit. It isn't like a court storming was unforeseen if it happened before. Some school has to get whopped for this at some point if they're ever going to stop.

 

The fallout from this will be simple:

Journalists covering the Big 12 will be forced to watch games from the media room from now on because it is clearly a liability to have them courtside
