Iowa Floods As Devastating As Katrina ?

Looking at the pictures it seems that the floods going on in Iowa seem to be as devastating as Katrina and once again it does not seem like there is a lot of federal help.

You would have thought after Katrina that FEMA would have gotten their act together.

The feds are there but, as funny as this sounds, there really isn't a lot for them to do right now.

Locals are pretty much handling the problem until the water goes down and people can go in and assess the damage.

What's the difference from Katrina then - more advance notice maybe for better planning ?

Are you saying people in New Orleans were lazy for not sandbagging the levees there? Dude, that's messed up.

No, that's not what he's saying.

Advance notice, plus we've been through this before. A lot of the lessons learned in 1993 have paid off here.

Plus, the local and state governments have been pretty efficient. Iowa's governor has been pretty hands-on and has gotten help where it has needed to go _ he doesn't have the deer-in-the-headlights look Louisiana's governor did during the days before and after Katrina.

The one thing I've found interesting is there's been no finger-pointing. No one's blaming the Corps of Engineers, nobody's blaming the war for lack of National Guard resources, Republicans and Democrats have kept their mouths shut. It hasn't turned political.

Any Sean Penn sightings yet. He usually drives a row boat.

No Sean Penn. No Spike Lee making a documentary. No celebs.

And white people too, apparently. This IS Iowa we're talking about.
