Interesting take on saving/reviving newspapers

    Considering the New York Times punted its Times Select program, and considering no reputable newspaper that I'm aware of charges for admission, I'm going to say the answer is no, making people pay for something they've been getting for free all this time without a MASSIVE increase in quality and quantity of content -- which we all know isn't happening in 2008 -- is not going to work.

    The only other way is to enter a combination with every other news outlet in your readership area and agree to all charge for access. Otherwise, people will gravitate towards the free option. The internet economic model has been established, and charging for anything other than music or high-quality porn doesn't work.
