Let's write one right now. I'll start:

I'm on death row in Terre Haute
I'd get out now but there's no boat

God, rhyme schemes at 1 a.m. Ok, here goes

The smell of the Haute fills up my nose
God I wish I had access to a hose

Actually, here's a little fact: On the Banks of the Wabash - Indiana's state song - was written by a dude from Terre Haute. And, if I remember correctly, Terre Haute is along the Wabash River. One could argue the song is about Terre Haute.

    Driving past on I-65,
The stench surrounds, lets me know I'm alive.

The Haute is on the Wabash, and supposedly there's a bottomless hole in the Wabash in the Haute.

If he's on Death Row, how can he drive past on I-65?

Hmmm ... I didn't realize we were doing a continuing song. OK, let me rethink this.

I didn't necessarily mean it literally. :) It was a metaphor for being miserable, with an allusion to the prison there.

    Problem solved ... NEXT!

    Mellencamp's latest: "Jena"

Yes, it's about the Jena 6.

For those who haven't seen the video or heard the song:

From his fan-site: "John has already filmed a video for one of the new tracks titled "Jena." Due to the newsworthy subject matter covered in the song, John did not delay in his release of this video."

Newspapers have editorial cartoonists for daily editions. Is it possible to have an editorial musician for on-line editions?
