Exciting opportunity for a job based out of Bloomington, Indiana:

Online college beat type reporter for Peegs.com, one of the longtime leading sites in the Rivals.com/Yahoo Sports network. Your beat will be Indiana University basketball and football coverage.

You would come in as an independent contractor, becoming the third full-time writer on our team. There may be some recruiting coverage but only in a support role for existing staff. The focus of this job will be current team coverage, ideally handled with the creativity and writing skills to help us continue to win this market.

Journalism degree and three years plus sports writing experience required. College basketball or football beat background preferred. Multimedia skills are a plus as is experience with live or recorded video, podcasts and the like.

I take this to mean no benefits package?

This may be a dumb question -- and if it is, I apologize -- but is this full-time?

JFC on a jumping pogo stick, dk, do you ever read the job listings?

Kids nowadays want everything handed to them on a platter.

That and meaning when they decide to dump your ass for no apparent reason, they can fight you to the death once you file for unemployment.

That's correct in regards to the benefits. Maybe competitive pressures will change that down the road but even the site publishers/owners don't receive benefits as things stand today.

The compensation alone though should be competitive and it should be good timing for jumping into this beat.

Competitive compensation won't do dick if your newest employee--sorry, independent contractor--gets sick. Noble, though, that publishers/owners don't have benefits. Heroic, even.

Mike is a really good guy and runs a site that is incredibly well-read for good reason. This would be a good situation for a young guy or someone looking to move up and onto a very competitive beat (especially online).
