Independent college sports publications

My friend and I were have a discussion today about college sports publications. It seems like the only ones you see for individual colleges are affiliated with the school and thus are just pr machines. Or, places like scout.com pushes them out for big schools but it's really just the basic media book with a ton of recruiting and statistics.
Are there any independent publications worth reading for big-time (or small time) colleges, or do the newspapers, colleges and national magazines fill the niche? It just seems like Columbus would have a "Scarlett and Grey Quarterly" or some such...
