OK, then. Don't pay taxes and see what happens.

    stretch:

an income tax was imposed to pay for the Civil War. It applied to people making an annual salary of over $600, which most people didn't. The tax was ended and revived again in the late 19th or early 20th century, at which time it was ruled unconstitutional. Hence, the passage of the 16th amendment.

I worked for the IRS for three years, and these kooks have been around for at least 20 years. One of these guys was a fellow named Irwin Jacobs, who would go around telling people this crap and selling books. What Irwin Jacobs didn't tell you was that he went to jail twice for tax evasion.

Here's an example of what these scam artists do - they take a passage of the IRS guide and claim that paying income taxes is voluntary. What the thing actually says is that people compute their taxes voluntarily. It is true in the sense that people report their income voluntarily and businesses report their income voluntarily... It is pretty much accepted if you say you had $410,000 or $420,000, there is nobody watching over you every minute. Less than 2 percent of the people in any year are audited. However, if they are asking you, they kind of know what the number should be. They are very good at figuring how much expenses should be... one pizza owner took deductions which, if believed, would have costs $15 in raw costs to make a pizza he sold for $10.

The best defense is knowing the laws and keeping complete records.

You say you'll change the Constitution, well, ya know,
We'd all love to change your head.
You think you'll change the institution, well, ya know,
You better free your mind instead.

(one, two, three, four, one two)

Let me tell you how it will be,
There's one for you, 19 for me
    Cause I'm the taxman,
    Yeah, I''m the taxman

Should five percent appear too small,
Be thankful I dont take it all.
    Cause I'm the taxman,
    Yeah, I'm the taxman.

(If you drive a car car) I'll tax the street
(If you try to sit sit) I'll tax your seat
(If you get too cold cold) I'll tax the heat
(If you take a walk walk) I'll tax your feet

    Taxman!
