    Condelences, indeed, to those who have recently lost someone near to their heart.

    And, not to be a downer, but also try to count your blessings. You could be this family

    On the way home from a cast party for a local production of "A Christmas Carol" the family was hit by a drunk driver. Three of the six died. To make the story a little more sad, the family had previously lost five children to various illnesses. So, the family of 11 is no reduced to the dad and two kids.

    We don't keep in touch with my younger brother any more for various complicated reasons, but since Thanksgiving I have hoped that whatever he is doing that he is safe and healthy.

    Thank you all for the many responses.

    A dear friend from college found out Wednesday her father has a stage four tumor in his brain. Needless to say, their Christmas is less festive than we would wish.

    To all of you, and all of yours, Merry Christmas. Here's to the many things we have to celebrate, including those who have gone on.
