Attending a scholarly conference in D.C. from May 9-11. That Saturday's pretty much a wash conference-wise so I thought about taking in the Braves-Nats game that afternoon. Been to D.C. a few times but am always open for tips/pointers from locals. Fire away!

    D.C. is the worst.

But if you MUST attend this thing, there's a moderator around here who likely can help you out.

Rent a small aircraft and land it on the White House lawn.
And don't forget to wave for the cameras!

Air and Space Museum is a must; the one at Dulles Airport is very enjoyable as well.

Best thing I ever got was the personalized tour of the Capital after contacting my Congressman's office; got to ride the "secret" underground rail.

Aren't those booked up quite a bit in advance?

Bring Zyrtec. My previously black car turned yellow over the weekend. If you haven't been here in a couple years, the Washington Monument is open again. You could try to get a ticket to go up. Mount Vernon (George Washington's house) is really nice if you like history, and it's pretty close to the city. Take a walk up from Dupont Circle to the National Cathedral. You pass a bunch of embassies and the Cathedral is pretty awesome. Or, you know, watch hotel room porn.

Hotel room porn? Man, you have to PAY for that!

There's enough free porn on the Internet to shake a stick at. And then some.

    Huh? Who? Me??

If you go to Mount Vernon, go out back and swim straight across the Potomac. You'll come up on the lawn of the house I lived in for three years

I can't imagine going back without eating at least a pound of grilled wings at any of the various Austin Grill locations. But maybe that's just me.

Will you have a car? If not, Dulles and Mount Vernon are out.
