Coyote goes after the Road Runner because that's what a coyote does. It has more in common with the scorpion and frog story than any story of vengeance.

 

I agree with that to a point, EE, however, Wile E. wasn't busy chasing other road runners...just THAT particular road runner. It's much deeper than a casual hunting affair as my original post illustrates. That coyote tied up millions of dollars -- possibly ruining a marriage in the meantime -- purchasing equipment to help catch ONE bird.

Surely if it was just a typical hunt and Wile E. missed, he would have moved on to another road runner. But, he didn't. Why? Nobody has the true answer, except those who were witness to the encounter.

After that original meeting, the Road Runner not only escapted, but mocked the coyote in each of Wile E.'s attempts.
