    Never use a Q-Tip, it only compacts the wax and removes very little (according to my hearing specialist mother). In addition, you could damage your eardrum by jamming a Q-Tip into your ear. Always flush out the ear canal.

    So, can one do this properly at home? I have the little blue ball thing with the pointed spout. Is that all that's required?

    Yes. Fill up a glass with warm water and flush away.

    The irrigation at the doctor is much more focused/pressurized and it does a much better job. But if you don't have major clogging the little blue ball should definitely help. I get a little giddy when this thread pops back up! What a brilliant discussion. :)
