If you could remake Blazing Saddles.....who would play the parts?

Boom, Randy Quaid would indeed make a pretty good Taggert.

Oooooh, how about Nick Nolte as Taggert?

And who plays Miss Stein (LePetomaine's "assistant").

Gotta be Britney Spears (a 2-minute cameo).

Black Bart -- Don Cheadle (He has the same sort of vibe that Little had)
Jim/Waco Kid -- Robert Downey, Jr. (I can see him being a coy, washed-up drunk)
Hedley Lamar -- Jon Lovitz (Phil Hartman would eat this role up. R.I.P.)
Gov. LePetomaine -- Dustin Hoffman (Assuming that Mel is too old...ducking)

That's all I can come up with at this time. The Rock is too much of a pretty boy to be Mongo while Siragusa is too round. He'd break the ox's back. Brad Garrett is too lean. Just put Jon Runyan in there and have him pretend that every horse is Michael Strahan.

Can't think up of a woman as much of a smart-ass as Kahn. Don't know much about Chenoweth.

David Spade as Lyle is so clutch.

Gotta find a way to get Wilder in for a cameo.

Bill Murray as Gabby Johnson has gold written all over it. As would Gov. LePetomaine's secretary being Spears.

And would there be some way to fit in Lewis Black?

I want to play the guy who's prepared to give the new sheriff a laurel ... and hearty handshake.

    Subtle.

Christopher Lloyd at the minister...reminds me of the guy who did my wedding.

Nail on head. Sadly, in our PC world, this movie never would fly, which shows our society's digression.

To me, Owen Wilson is a natural as the Waco Kid.

    Others: Sherrif, Cuba Gooding

    Hedley, John Heard

    The Gov, Charles Durning

    Lily, Scarlet Johanson.

You can't even put some of the best lines from movie up here on SJ or the thread will be locked.

These are a little bit unusual, but I think they go to the point of the characters, whether or not they could actually be acted out by them.

For Black Bart, I think you need to go for someone who can convey the whole fish-out-of-water-in-a-Western concept and who can pull off the whole "Where are all the white women at?" line, that is, being vaguely threatening. I nominate Ludacris.

For Jim, I'd renominate Gene Wilder, since I think he's the most underrated comic actor maybe ever. If not, I'm going to throw a curve and say Paul Giamatti. Of course, Christopher Walken in this role would also be worth the price of admission.

Hedley Lamarr: The previously-nominated Kevin Spacey and Jon Lovitz would probably work here, but I'd go with someone with a little more...gravitas. Stephen Colbert.

Lili von Schtupp: Why not Amy Poehler?

Governor William J. Lepetomaine: I agree that Mel Brooks is basically irreplaceable, but if you had to, maybe Steve Martin?

    Mongo: Ray Lewis.

not a threadjack, but a parallel thought:

if they turned Peanuts into a movie, who is cast?

so far i can only think of shannon doherty as lucy.

    maybe michael cera as linus.

who plays charlie brown, charlie brown?
