    According to Brooks, Pryor wrote all the Mongo stuff.

    From what I understand, Pryor wasn't cast because the studio was afraid of Pryor's reputation. It had nothing to do with his perceived inability to carry the film.

    Why would anybody want to remake and tamper with one of the funniest movies of all time?

    You could not come close to matching the original....ever!

    For starters, nobody could ever top Harvey Korman's performance as Hedley Lamarr. It's an absolute travesty that he wasn't at least nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actor.

    Would Pryor and Wilder have had the same chemistry they showed when teamed in later films? Would those later films have been better had they been paired earlier? Oh, the possibilities ...

    I like those. And I'll humbly suggest Larry David for the part of the Gov ... though no one would ever hire him, because he's a pain in the ass to work with.

    The script is not dominated with Pryor material, but a good deal of his stuff still made the cut.
