If you blame Miami for the brawl, you're a racist bigot!

A sample from Sun-Sentinel writer Omar Kelly's blog on "The U":

An entire school now knows what it's like to be a black man in American society, where people have a preconceived perception of U before they get a clue who you even are, and are threatened by U.

The truth is there's nothing UM can ever do that will change it, and Saturday's melee is proof of that considering how most of the nation didn't take a look at all the fact before they showed some prejudice.

Miami's taking more of a beating because it's the better-known team, plus it has a history of being involved in melees like Saturday's.

Also, the fact that they jumped up and down afterward, helmets thrusted in the air surely didn't help perceptions.

If you don't want to be considered State Penn, then don't act like it.

And of course there was the starting DB sprinting into the ruckus swinging his helmet like a lumberjack with an axe. Or the quarterback who said, "They started something and we finished it."

Yeah. Let's look at the facts.

Fact is, the 'Canes acted like thugs (though some of them fight like sissies).

I loooove the fact U supporters are saying Miami didn't start it.

Big whoop-de-damn-dooo. If this team had character instead of characters, the whole team wouldn't have rushed the field.

It doesn't matter who started it. It doesn't matter who finished it. What matters is who participated, and from what I could tell, the Hurricanes were willing participants in that disgusting breach of sportsmanship.

The really frightening thing [although not surprising] is how, if you scroll down, you'll notice just about all of the comments about the blog entry are 100 percent positive. Not surprising, but interesting.

 

Nowhere in that blog does the writer make any mention of any reaction to the brawl being racist. He simply compared being Miami, i.e., having a certain stereotype associated with you, to being a black man, which is analagous.

You can get on him for being an apologist, but to suggest he is crying racism in this situation is an outright lie or an indication that you have no reading comprehension abilities.
