How about, "If you're a 30-something making minimum wage, it's likely only because your boss isn't allowed to pay you even less. Because if he could, he would."

Wait a minute. Are we talking about minimum wage, or are we talking about the wonderful breath of fresh air and hot takes this Erick Erickson is?

If we're talking about minimum wage (and its cousin, income inequality), we should remember two things:

    1) A fairly low percentage of Americans sees this as a major issue, but that's because a fairly low percentage of Americans has any idea how overweighted income distribution is to the top 1-5 percent.

    2) The predictions about what a horrible effect an increased minimum wage would have on the economy began with the implementation of the minimum wage in 1938 and have continued with every suggested or enacted increase since then.

I won't post the best response, because it'll immediately become political. Google "adjunct disaster porn" ... plenty of blaming going on there.

Would be best if we restricted our attention to the esteemed Mr. Erickson, who seems to be quite the piece of work.

It's always the fault of one side or the other. There is no in between.

    Duh.

The minimum wage is pretty low. And, most proposals to raise it are pretty modest.

If the modest raise in the minimum wage were to be implemented, I don't see it being a big deal. Politically, I don't see a reason for Republicans to fight it. It's a losing proposition. Dems use it only to rally the base.

Now, going to a $15 minimum raise, in some short amount of time would be a big deal. At that rate, McDonalds and other companies would invest in more technology. They would put in touch screens to take orders and such, which would reduce jobs, and hurt the people it is aimed at helping the most.

    And, Dem politicians know this.

And a $15 minimum wage would push up other wages.

Right now, if it goes up a buck, who cares? Skilled labor already makes enough of a premium over the minimum wage that it wouldn't matter. But, if the minimum wage is $15.00 an hour, then I'm probably going to have to pay more than $20.00 an hour for a reliable and skilled technician.

You'll definitely get a lot of applicants to live on your couch in that case.

I only referenced Erickson as someone Jay Farrar had never heard of because he was guest hosting the Rush Limbaugh show yesterday.

He's back on today. Show just started now. Tune in for further discussion!
