Magic Johnson should be a significant part of the discussion, as well.

Wait this is about greatest athlete right? Not most physically gifted athlete, correct?

I would think great means successful.

to echo the sentiments of others, HELL NO!!!

AS HAS BEEN STATED IT'S ONLY FRIGGIN' GOLF!

heck, i even remain on the fence about whether golfers are really "athletes." i'd take no issue with anyone who'd want to argue that tiger's the greatest golferever, but greatest ATHLETE of the last 25 years? again, HELL NO!!!

OK so then I think we can agree that Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders belong to another topic. As gifted as they were I don't think they can be put in Jordan or Woods' category when it comes to success.

Anyone ever figure out how many miles a basketball player covers running up and down the court during one NBA game?

Probably one-fourth that of a soccer player. Maybe less.

And that's only a fraction of what a marathoner runs. How does how far a guy runs/walks really factor into this discussion?

    More mental strain? Bullshit.

All athletes have to deal with pressure. They have to put that aside and focus on their jobs. Except they do it with guys on the other side trying to stop them, with fans in the stands screaming at them and with teammates counting on them.

Sorry. He's the best in golf, maybe the best ever. But not in a class with the elite of sports that truly push competitors physically as well as mentally.
