OK, if Tiger wins this thing on a bum knee, does this make Tiger the greatest professional American athlete of the past 25 years?

If you say no, who is the greatest?

Jordan was the name I was thinking about.

    Not close.

Remember, we're still talking about golf ... the sport that made John Daly and Craig Stadler famous.

Bo Jackson is the best athlete I've ever seen. He didn't dominate a sport, but he was better than most in both.

But we're also talking about a guy with a bum knee walking 4 1/2 miles a day in additon to making some incredible shots.

Knowing what we know now about the WWE NBA, I'm going with Tiger.

He's to golf what Babe Ruth was to baseball.

I'm not sure I put Jordan in that same category.

I find that very difficult to believe.

Have to agree with Mr. Bags regarding Mr. Jackson.

It's still only golf. Doesn't compare to other, more physically-demanding sports. Hell, I'd put Lance Armstrong and track guys like Michael Johnson and Carl Lewis ahead of Tiger Woods.

    Completely agree.

Also, Tiger will never touch Jordan. He may go down as the best golfer of all-time and one of the best athletes, but he'll never touch Jordan's greatness or his popularity.

But there is also more mental strain and focus required to win the U.S. Open than most other major sporting events. Also we're talking about Tiger, a guy who is in better shape than most athletes. To do what he has been able to accomplish is obscene. I have a hard time holding other people's sins (Daly, Stadler) against Tiger. I have played many sports, and never have I been so humbled than on a golf course.

I know about 23,000 current and former NFL players who would say, "So what?"

Many are marveling at what Tiger is doing as an unparalleled epic achievement.

NFL players have another word for it:

    "Sunday."
