If anyone sees Robert Plant getting the shit beat out of him.......

That's probably a lot of it, but I do think his solo career is a big factor as well. He's moved on musically from LZ, successfully broken out of that mold and gone in some pretty interesting directions. I also recall reading somewhere that Plant and JPJ had a falling out of sorts at one time.

"Celebration Day" in 2007 was awesome (including Plant), but IMO there's a huge difference in being able to crank it up for a couple shows and doing a full-fledged tour (even if it's a 'Senior Tour' agenda of 2-3 dates a week).

Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney can do it because those guys have essentially never quit playing 100 dates a year (or 150 in the case of Bruce).

Amazing how much better "Celebration Day" is than the sludge/shit/snoozefest of "The Song Remains The Same."

I don't doubt the band could do it, but it only works if Plant is 100% into it. As others have noted, if he's up there mush-mouthing through the songs, it all goes to hell.

I also really liked "Celebration Day," and part of it is that Plant can no longer hit the ridiculous high notes. I actually like the songs a lot more without the verbal gymnastics of his youth.

By the way, Plant's publicist says the story is bullshit and I'm inclined to agree.

    Yep... Team Plant is hedging.

I have a sneaking feeling some kind of compromise combo tour will be done: maybe 2-week, 5-date stretches in London, NY and L.A.., not a 35-date, 3-month slog.

Jagger was born July 26, 1943, so he was 45 from 7/26/88 to 7/27/89.

The Stones played no dates during that time period -- the "Steel Wheels" tour opened on Aug. 31, 1989.

    According to,

Jagger played 'Satisfaction' 3 times in solo shows while he was actually 45 years old, so maybe he faced down his fear of his own mortality.

If you want to experience Zeppelin live, get the DVD that chronicles them from a dazed and confused Swedish (Danish?) TV studio audience in "Communication Breakdown" through a blistering "In The Evening".

    That's Led Zeppelin.

Sorry, I'd go see them. I wouldn't be expecting Led Zeppelin circa 1975 but seeing Page play would still be a treat.

Funny you should mention Coverdale. When I saw Page/Plant in 1995 in Atlanta, they played Shake My Tree. I have a bootleg from their Toronto stop on the 1995 tour in which they did an extended version of Shake My Tree - with an incredible drum solo by Michael Lee. It's the finest piece of rock and roll music I have ever heard.

I may even still have the old Coverdale/Page album they did back in the 90s. I do recall that song though.

    EDIT: Here's the song.....

And yes, if Led Zeppelin did go back on tour, I would go see them.
