You better yield the floor to that gentleman from Alabama or he'll elbow you like he did that player from Angola.

  3. I look forward to Charles throwing Republicans through windows.

He was for years. Until he said, "I was a Republican until they lost their minds, "The word 'conservative' means 'discriminatory,' practically."

  8. thanks, tbf. vaguely remember the repubs-lost-their-minds comment, but with sir charles, everything is open for negotiation, i guess.

And from the dumb question-inaccurate answer category:

Asked if Barkley would be the tallest or largest member of Congress should he be elected, Davis flashed a quick smile. "Both," he said of the one-time Round Mound of Rebound.

I doubt Barkley at 6-4 would be the tallest member of Congress.

The sleeper story behind all of this comedy is that Artur Davis, the current represenative from the 7th District, is the morning line favorite to win the Democratic nomination for governor, which would put him closer to running the state than any black man to date. Whether he could win the general is a whole 'nother issue, but still ...

Barkley's political ambitions are like his golf game. Enthusiastic but ultimately, futile.

Hmmm, I don't know about that.
Running for Davis's district, yeah he's got a very good chance.
Running for governor as he's threatened for years, maybe not so much.
