I work at a newspaper and I got a raise!!! Oh wait...

Checked my online account to make sure the direct deposit went through.
And I suddenly became very excited. I had made more money this week!
Yippee!
Then I checked my paycheck, and my pay was still the same.
Then, then I remembered. That crazy ass President Barack Obama had done some mumbo jumbo to the tax code and everyone should be seeing more money.
Thanks Barack!

 

I get to enjoy that benefit for one week before the pay cut kicks in. Yippee.

 

I got a raise a few months ago.

The secret is to find an absolutely awful place to work in the middle of nowhere where there is no competition for the job.

 

My bi-weekly paycheck went up $11 a few weeks ago. Woot!

 

Hey, let's be patriotic and help out our economy with that little bit of tax rebate loot.

Here's another thing Journalism profs and deans need to tell their students.
This is a business, if you choose to enter it, your starting salary will be your salary forever. And more than likely your starting salary actually will be cut a few times.

i didn't decide to go into this biz until i got to college and had this great journalism professor in my freshman year. wound up having him for two other classes. he really was terrific. ran into him a couple of years after graduation and asked why he never talked about the pay and the hours and the weekends and the holidays. his response? "now you know why i teach."

 

Just be careful with that extra money. The tax rate didn't change. They're just witholding less. So you will owe more next April.
