    He had the good grace to laugh. We'd also sit around after the place closed, nursing the one beer we could get, bitching about our tips.
    "I made 40."
    "I made 50."
    "I made 45."
    (this was in the early 70s remember).

    Someone would soon say, "How much you think Bruce cleared today?"

    The guy was way too cool for that. He'd just sit there with a buzzed smirk on his face. Now and then he'd offer a "aw, fuck you guys." But, hell, the ship had sailed at that point.
    More sad about it than mad about it.

    I loved Hum. And hearing the clip of that song on the Cadillac ads brightens my day every time.

    It runs all the time. You might not recognize the song because it's only an instrumental part that plays during the ad -- a hard guitar riff. But you surely know the song (unless I'm older than I thought).

    ..."She thinks she missed the train to Mars/She's out back counting stars"
