I have little respect for condescending pricks like TJ

Jim Murray could put down municipalities with a measure of class, and elan.

    Slummers does neither.

Again, I know it's what we all do.

We compare. We compare Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds. Jim Brown and Emmitt Smith. Barry Sanders and Reggie Bush. We even compare subjective, intangibles: Michael Jordan's heart, Joe Montana's leadership.

But, comparing Simers -- or anyone -- to one of the two or three greatest sports journalists who ever lived is unfair.

Why is it unfair, fish, when people here act like Simers is one of the all-time greats?
Which we know, of course, he's not even close to being..

We do. Those with perspicacity do.

T.J. Simers is a great entertainer. Why does every columnist have to be measured with how much wisdom they craft into beautiful sentences?

Depends on your definition of entertainment.

The reason I don't like Simers is the same reason I don't like Mariotti. I don't care for prick columnists. It's not a style I prefer. Give me 15 Telander or Posnanski columns before I read one by Simers or Mariotti.

And he uses their naive attempts to make nice just to abuse them some more.

And the whole subject is problematic, even if it weren't Simers writing it. The tweak-the-opposing-city (or state, or country) column is as cliche as the bets between the mayors of championship-final cities. Even Posnanski's try at it read yucky.
