Bar conversation has it that the Marietta Daily Journal's education reporter is leaving, and they aren't filling the position. Keep in mind that the schools beat is what publisher Otis Brumby prides himself on.

Apparently they're down to three news reporters. Sports sounds fully staffed, however...and has generally had personnel continuity for a good while now.

Otis deserves as much misery as he gives out.

Marietta's not Gannett. It's independent and a completely diffferent slice of hell.

Man, it's a huge relief to me to find out on sportsjournalists.com the status of the education writer in Marietta.

Definitely a thread well spent. Much obliged.

Seriously? Otis Brumby? Sounds like a Dickens character...

If Dickens wrote about Col. Reb, then yeah.

Calling Otis Col. Reb is an insult to the Colonel.

Best description of Otis? In Creative Loafing, when the MDJ was likened to a banana republic.
Baby, I lived through that hell for two years and change and happiness is 580 Fairground Street in the mother fuckin rear view mirror.

In case you've forgotten that there are 1,500 newspapers in the U.S. ...
