I guess they couldn't think of a headline in time?

It said "think of a headline," it didn't say anything about printing it.

That's a state press association headline winner if I've ever seen one!

Looks like ajc.com had a similar issue:

    Sample hedline goes here xyyx

I'm tired of editors over-sensationalizing stories.

    C'mon . . . we're talking about NEWSPAPERS, here . . . not the Trentonian.

Not that that's what happened in the case of the folks with hands glued to crotches, but one thing that might explain why so many of us seem like we're seeing so many more "Hed goes here xyxyxyxyx ... "

In many cases, the process that sends a PDF to the web site or Newseum or somewhere is an automated function -- i.e., "Send [Page = 1] and [Section = A] to [URL.whatever.com] at [11:15 p.m.]. If for some reason the page isn't actually finished at 11:15 p.m., the process goes ahead and picks up the page and posts it anyway. In some houses, the same is true for individual stories -- "Send all stories for [section] to Web at [11:15 p.m.]"

So it's possible that, while those miscues are visible electronically, the print reader missed out on the fun because the story got its actual headline after the story/page was posted online.

Yet another reminder (as if this should be necessary) to be real, real careful with your dummy type.

Hey, c'mon ... what the hell is going on here?

There's no descender in the top deck of that headline ... what kind of test hed is that, anyway?

These kids today, with their Quark and their rock 'n' roll.
