Ironically, even Andy Partridge didn't really think a lot about that song, which is why it was relegated to the B-side dustbin at first.

Colin Moulding wrote some great songs; Andy Partridge wrote a lot more very interesting and unique ones. If Moulding was the main songwriter, they might have had more "hits" but been less influential, if that makes sense.

Is this thread about Depeche Mode or XTC? Or is it really about the Smiths and we just haven't gotten there yet?

I saw them at the Tower Theater on the 'Black Celebration' tour. I think it was 1986.
I like their music, but I thought the live show was boring.

I suspect people in the rest of the country didn't realize hwo absolutely massive they were in Los Angeles. There was a tour where they played theaters across the US, and then played two dates at the Rose Bowl when they got to L.A.

By the way, "Violator" was free on Amazon's MP3 store this weekend. I have no idea why.

  8. Dave Gahan lived with the girl who plays Flo on the Progressive Insurance commercials. They have a 2-year old daughter.
