    False, but no surprise there.

    The basic difference is that most of the energy drinks contain additives like ginseng or taurine or gingko biloba that boost the effects of the caffeine, as well as other additives that mimic caffeine so you're getting more than what appears on the label.

    In fact, the high sugar content will only give you a quick pop of bogus energy...you need the caffeine to sustain the so-called energy when your glucose levels crash. Sugar won't help you work out, you'll have no energy within 20 minutes. The caffeine is what makes your workouts last longer.

    Guess that would explain why I crash much harder after I drink an energy drink than after three Americanos.
