I offer without comment, my old paper is apparently going the hyper local route. Today it is a nine-year-old baseball tournament from a smaller paper in the chain. Yesterday, it placed a summer swim league story from another smaller paper in the chain in the same spot.

Does in bring in more readers than it turns off?
It doesn't bring me in. I may not be the target. Will all those mommies and daddies and aunts and uncles rush to the site?

The thing yesterday was the swim league my kids were in years ago and we'd give it 3-4 inches on the agate page - a small top and a listing of multiple winners. Maybe a wild pic from one of the five area swim leagues.

I'm fine with it being there ... leading the page, I dunno. In a small, obviously local shop, sure ... but otherwise ...

Hopefully you immediately canceled your subscription.

I remember when I was an intern there was a mother who would call every night trying to get her son's little league box score in the paper.

One of the slot guys picked up the phone one night and said, "If your son is as good as you say he is, we'll cover him when he gets to high school." and hung up on her...

I really wish you wouldn't use the term hyper local.

ADHD loco is the preferred term.

Reporter: "So Timmy, is freestyle your best stroke?"
    Timmy: "Mmmm Hmmm."
Reporter: "At what point did you feel like you had the race won?"
Timmy: Shrugs and runs off to be held by his mommy.

Reporter drops notebook, places gun in mouth and ends life. Is much happier.
