Re: special friend. That isn't gossip, it's fact. Ask any employee familiar with people the new editor has hired from his old job 2,500 miles away. Nepotism rules would be very hard to enforce if people are both single and kept things low-key.

 

FC, there have been ZERO hires at HT newsroom in past 10 months, predating editor's arrival, though buyouts might allow for one/some. Your info is either premature, skewed or completely effing wrong, no disrespect.

Not sure Bryant can be called the H-Times' "new guy." I first crossed paths with him when he was covering high schools for The Times in the early '90s.

New columnist, perhaps? I read their stuff on al.com and he's been in that role since the great John Pruett retired, what, a year ago?

 

bryant, I believe, was the SE before stepping back into a columnists role.

What is the latest on this situation and the newspaper's remaining staff?

 

i heard at least one person who accepted the buyout was approached about staying. Not sure how that situation has played out, though.
