Man, it really kills me we're not getting any more opinions like that.

The really funny part is he thinks that adding that deranged second paragraph strengthened his post after originally only posting the first line.

TIL that the new software doesn't have the "pussycat" auto-replace.

Not really. You had to earn the Major Letter. If you got the "Certificate," you were not happy at all. We had one guy who actually played a little on varsity but only got the Certificate. He was an OK guy and not our worst player. In my estimatation he should have gotten a Minor Letter, but he apparently rubbed the coach wrong. He was the only guy on the team who got a Certificate.

And Versatile. I still can't figure out what the hell that was for. His episode recaps on the Parenthood thread made for some great reading.

So where do you draw the line? College letters? Silver stars? Newspaper All-State awards? Honor roll certificates?

A letter is something that is earned, not bought. Schools have gotten lazy by not doing the document thing before a kid walks into the store.

I have no problem with the school awarding kids with letters who were not on the team. But just going out and buying one and a jacket? No.

As has been stated repeatedly, this is a special case. I agree with you in principle, but this is a special-needs kid. Who gives a shit? He didn't go out and buy a Congressional Medal of Honor.
