China has horrific environmental problems. They have been cutting back on the consumption of coal because the air is frequently so bad that schools have to close. I have been to Beijing when people are off the streets and you can not see more than a quarter mile from a high-rise. India also has the same problems. Eventually the middle class gets large enough that governments have to respond to the need to breath clean air.
