    I don't know if I would call it "competing." It did look like he was spreading himself way too thin, though. I was surprised by how much The Daily Beast was paying him. $300K isn't chump change.

    I don't know, I'd probably consider it a competing site. Especially since he seems to be doing journalism criticism there too.

    My day job won't let me write for a hunting and fishing website because they consider it competition for advertising dollars - even though I'd be doing stories locate about 100 miles outside of our coverage area.

    Kurtz's piece was a flaming lump of shit...

    But that is an absurd overstatement. Good lord. Is the "Daily Beast" even a "major news outlet"? I certainly don't think of it as one.
