    These threads are so cute.

If you want to buy into the whole Peak Oil/doomsday/Kirk Cameron is my friend/OHMYGODWEREALLGONNADIE!!!! hysteria, then don't just nibble on the barrel, pull the flippin' trigger. Quit your job, stop paying your bills, abandon your homes and loved ones, develop a taste for barbecued sewer rat, slap on a sandwich board and join the legions that have been wandering the streets for ages, predicting our imminent demise. We've been playing this game for generations. Yawn. Whatever.

All is certainly not well, but the world ain't ending tomorrow, the next day or even the next century.

How will it all end? Who the hell knows. Like man, the planet was destined to die as soon as it was born.

The thread is mis-named. The world won't end due to all those things. Society as we know it will, but the world will survive.

Sleeper, I'm a natural born skeptic. I don't know if I fully buy into the peak oil theory. But I do know it never hurts to discuss and read about it.

Are there newspapers in the afterlife? Please don't tell me Gannett is going to be with me for all of eternity.

I've always thought our civilization would end the Thundaar the Barabarian way:

The year 1994: From out of space comes a runaway
planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon,
unleashing cosmic destruction. Man's civilization is
    cast in ruin.

Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn...

A strange new world rises from the old: a world of
savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man
bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions
Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength,
his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the
    forces of evil.

    He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!
