How to make a bowling ball hook

Getting a finger-tip ball helps but it's all about the release. I used to throw a back-up ball and when I got a finger-tip ball and learned the throw a hook, in a couple of years I raised my average from 148 to 184. It's all about the speed and the amount of spin you put on the ball when you release it. Like anything else, practice, practice, practice. As Birdscribe said, the weight of the ball has nothing to do with it.

A damn frustrating exercise is what I've created. I see 12-year-olds who can do this, but I really suck. I've already got one game (golf) that makes me tear out my hair; I don't need another.
