To foreigners, a Yankee is an American.
To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.
To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.
To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

I live 20 minutes from one neighboring state, an hour from another and just over an hour from a third.
    We just use:
"Bunch of fucking inbreds from (insert state)."

Or, as Dan Halen would say, "Inbred flotsam."

In the interest of fairness, it's not always directed at out of staters:
    "Fucking inbreds from (next town/county)"
"Fucking inbreds from (other side of own town)."
"Fucking inbreds from news department." ;D

As someone who hails from the state right next to Iowa, it definitely means "Idiot Out Wandering Around."

I usually refer to them as "Iowegians," though I think there are more Scandanavians in Wisconsin and Minnesota than Iowa.

And for Minnesotans, tell them Wisconsin has more lakes, but doesn't need to brag about something dumb.

This is true. Texans don't differentiate when using the term "coonass" in reference to Louisianans. Since a large portion of my family is from Louisiana, many of my friends/co-workers call me coonass, although my Louisiana blood is mostly Central/North La., not South La.

If you live in Texas, but you were raised in East Texas, everyone else in the state looks down on you. You get the "racist Southern hick" label if you're from East Texas, especially the ArkLaTex or Southeast Texas portions.

East Texas is more like Louisiana, Southern Arkansas, or Mississippi in climate, demographics, and culture than it is like the rest of Texas.

At Carmel, we also referred to Noblesville as Nobletucky, although at the time it wasn't the water-and-grow subdivision enclave it is today. Then again, I know most everyone else in the area had lots of nasty names for people from Carmel.
(Indianapolis' wealthiest suburb, reputation for snotty kids, present company excepted, of course.)

If they're from Alabama, you can call them an Auburn fan.

Worst insult I can think of.

Just tell them they drive like they are from New Jersey.

A former co-worker of mine from North Carolina used to refer to South Carolinians as "cottonmouths."

Other than the prevalence of that kind of snake there, I never got the reference.
