How the New Yorker Picks Those Stupid Cartoons

    I don't read the New Yorker but its cartoons have to be better than the lame-ass jokes - most of which are older than Hef - that Playboy trots out every month.

    great post - thanks. loved the story.

    new yorker is one of my favorite magazines

    i look forward to the cartoons - i'd estimate their success rate at 40-50%.

    You know the cartoon in the back of the New Yorker, which they do a reader caption contest for? Daniel Radosh (no, I am not him, so don't thank for me coming :))--who has written for the New Yorker, among other magazines--has his own New Yorker anti-caption contest every week, in which people submit the worst possible caption for the cartoon in the back of the magazine. Some of the responses he gets are funny.
