How soon before a movie comes out about killer stingrays?

  1. Should be scarier than Jaws and get better reviews than Snakes on a Plane.

Sounds like somebody has a script in development on his laptop.

Call it: "A piece of tail" -- should draw the teenage boys crowd.

LIGHTHOUSE POINT, Fla. - An 81-year-old boater was in critical condition Thursday after a stingray flopped onto his boat and stabbed him, leaving a foot-long barb in his chest, authorities said.

Maybe the Tampa Bay Devil Rays should use it on their opponents.

The doctors actually pulled the barb through his heart, so it wouldn't tear it apart.

On a recent trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I learned that a stingray's barbs are located at the base of the tail. I awlays thought the barbs were on the tip of the tail.

Speaking of which, they have a tank with bat rays in it. Their barbs have been removed, and visitors can touch the rays.

They have them in Corpus Christi, too. They can actually be pretty playful creatures, and quite often their "stinger" is only used as a defense.

The ones in Monterey were acting kind of crazy. The little buggers were trying to get out of the tank. they get up out of the water. They're probably sick of people poking at them all of the time.
