How should we cover HS basketball?

    Starting Monday morning, start calling athletic directors and superintendents. Until they get the message, rely on the teams you know with call in.

    You're going to have to do some gamers, so highlight your week's most important games. On your "nights off" snap a few pictures and do an extended brief that jumps to the roundup (make sure you're getting file art for future features). You can't do anything but you can maximize your coverage. Most readers aren't super concerned with the difference between an extended brief and a full gamer anyway.

    As sports editors, you can call the ADs and then the principals if you get no cooperation.

    At that point, you should discuss the matter with your managing editor and publisher to make sure they have your back if you have to go higher up the food chain (superintendent) -- you probably will.
