What if the airport layover included walking out on the tarmac? Screw it, I'm counting it - check off New Jersey.

I've been to 32, slept in 22 and golfed in 16.

Missing: AK, WA, OR, ID, MT, NM, SD, AR, LA, MS, AL, SC, NC, VA, WV, MD, DE, VT

And while I once spent four days in Tucson, the time that I've spent sitting around Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix (where I've never actually visited) probably surpasses that.

I don't count layovers. I do count drive-throughs, or else very few of us would have a reason to count Delaware.

    Been to 35.

Missing: AK, HI, ID, ME, MN, MT, NH, ND, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WI, WY

Two of those get eliminated next month.

I think you're good with California. That's far enough and you ate a meal there.

Alabama and South Carolina are a tad dubious for you and me both (pretty sure we were both on those trips). I think we actually got out of the car in South Carolina, by some lake or something. Alabama? Not so much.

This thread has been done before, but it's always interesting. Since many of us have jobs with travel, the list evolves.

    My current list:
Lived in: WI, TX, IN, OH, KY.

Slept in: WI, TX, IN, OH, KY, MI, PA, NY, NJ, MD, DC, VA, NC, GA, FL, LA, TN, WV, AR, MO, IA, MN, ND, SD, NE, KS, OK, CO, ID, AZ, ON, PQ, Bahamas, France.

Visited, but didn't sleep in: WY, SC, AL, MS, DE, CT, MA, VT

Bylines: WI, IN, OH, IL, MN, IA, ND, SD, NE, KS, OK, TX, WY, ID, LA, AR, MO, IA, MI, KY, TN, FL, PA, NY, CT. Might have bylined either Colorado too. Can't remember.

Missing, but expect to add this year: CA, HI, possibly NH and ME.

Had sex in: WI, MN, IA, MO, IL, IN, KY, TN, OH, PA, NY, ON, PQ, FL, DC, Bahamas, France. Probably Michigan too.

Been pulled over by the cops: WI, IN, OH, IL, CO. (An extra-special special fuck you to that cop in Nederland, Colo. who pulled me over in his shithole of a speed trap burg. Go get fucked by a chlamydia-ridden grizzly bear, asshole.)

Had a beer in: WI, MN, IA, NE, KS, MO, IL, KY, TN, OH, PA, NY, ON, PQ, NC, FL, LA, TX, Bahamas, France.

My favorite ticket was in South Dakota. Would have been in 1991. That is one long-ass state end to end. You get on these open stretches. ... and I got every last MPH out of my little Nissan Sentra. My friend Bill and I got pulled over. The cop took credit cards right on the spot (with one of those old school credit card sliders that imprints the numbers onto the paper). I believe it was a $5 fine no matter how fast you were going, but I might be wrong. Our choice was to drive with him a hundred miles, or whatever it was, and go before the judge the next day. ... or pay on the spot.
