My one (quick) Iowa experience ...

It was early December a few years ago and I needed 3 segments or a thousand miles or so to achieve elite status on Northwest for the following year. With no travel scheduled the remainder of the year and plenty of work trips (including a few long international trips) planned for the next year, getting to elite status for upgrade/mileage bonuses was a must.

I began searching the cheapest, quickest flights to get me to that level. I ended up flying MKE-MSP-DSM roundtrip ... leaving MKE at 7 p.m., arriving DSM at 11:30 p.m. on a Monday night, leaving DSM at 5:15 a.m. and arriving MKE at 9 a.m. the next morning. All for $110.

    Never left the DSM airport.

Further proof the Tide's OOC sked is traditionally soft.

The only think that shouldn't count is if the only time you were in the state was during a layover and you didn't leave the airport.

I think the only state that I've been to, but didn't sleep in was Delaware.

    Layovers shouldn't count.
Nor should driving through or traveling through by train.

If those count, I've probably got another 12-20.
