On a serious note, I wonder how many SJ regulars are former sports journalists.

Could be off, but I'd guess more than half.

Did sports the first 17 years before switching to news.

How many would get out of sports journalism in exchange for $50,000 in cash from the CEO of Yahoo?

And what if someone is full-time but works from home?

Judging from replies on some other threads, I would agree with that assessment.

Poor Marisa Mayer and her $300,000,000 net worth. That million bonus is sure to send her kids to college now.

You seem to take issue with my idea, which is fine. We operate differently.

If I'm a CEO worth $300,000,000 and just got a million bonus, I'd throw it back into the workers in exchange for the next great idea that banks Yahoo a trillion bucks. If it doesn't yield that trillion dollar idea, well, I'm only out a million bucks.

Not sure why that idea should be controversial. Companies - especially tech companies - routinely pay out employee bonuses for patents.

    So?

Why not incentivize creativity within the company by endowing your own X-prize? The million it costs a CEO from a fat compensation package to create it would be more than made up for by the positive press.

And it might drive greater productivity.

They still give a Henry Luce prize every year at Time, Inc.
