I learned once that people read obits, ads, sports and comics in the paper, just not in that order.

If a person dies on a Sunday, and your next paper is not until Thursday afternoon, they might already be in the ground before their obit runs.

    Don't think this isn't important.

Why not produce a skeleton paper version (obits, comics, box scores) and have a full web version?

To receive the full web version, you have to have a password provided by the paper that activates with your subscription?

Has anyone ever gone to Maxim.com? Has anyone ever gone to Maxim.com when they were a subscriber of the magazine? They are two totally different sites content-wise.

If I was working for a newspaper that did that, I would start my own Web site the next day.

What hasn't been mentioned here is that online revenue is NOT anywhere near viable right now...

we're talking an ad revenue proportion of like 8-10 cents on the dollar compared to print... what this means? While "going to the web" is hugely important, it can't be relied on its own in local markets with all local content because there isn't enough revenue there yet...
