    My shop eliminated full-time photographers from the newsroom and thereby the contract. Both were the two lowest men in seniority and classed with reporters and reporter/photographers.

    I heard my ME say just the other day "I hope Bob and Bill don't leave town. We're going to need them on the weekend as freelancers."

    I hope Bob and Bill reply: "We've got gigs shooting weddings this weekend. Go shoot your own fucking photos."

    I know of one paper where employees were bought out, then used as stringers during the buyout period. The company attorneys stepped in and wagged a finger. Dunno what happens when the buyout period expires, but something seems ... off about that scenario.
