How did your paper handle the Virginia Tech shootings

Cosmo, that's how we approached it -- we're not close to Virginia Tech but at least one of the victims was from here and we tracked down every kid we could find that is a student there that is from here. The thing about that was, we started with former athletes from this area who are at Virginia Tech -- kids we covered in high school and went from there.

Now, though, we are struggling to localize it.

Also worth noting: No such thing as Virginia Tech University. Full name is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Of course, everyone calls it VT, though you get your occasional older alum or fan who still calls it VPI.

Heck, one highly sought football recruit doesn't even know the name of the school. When he announced that he had picked Tech, he said he would be going to "the University of Virginia Tech."

Either that or he wanted to dick-tease UVa fans.
