    Dumb writer should have just used a nice, sanitized cliche, rather than go out there on the edge.

    We brought this up a few weeks ago, but didn't kill the writer ... glad you guys are. Somebody on the desk needs to be scolded, as well.

    a) Doesn't make sense
    b) terribly racist

    Didn't Dan Jenkins have a "Spearchucker Jones" in one of his novels?

    and didn't charles barkley call a player from one of the african nations a spearchucker at the '92 olympics?

    Is it my imagination or has "spearchucker" also been used as a slur against Native Americans?

    That's not the edge, it's the abyss. With more than 600,000 words in the English language, there would seem to me a reasonable spectrum between cliche and witless insult from which to choose, Ace.
