How did Bin Laden news affect pagination at your paper?

Had to be an early edition, I would guess.

The USA Today and New York Times at my local supermarket had nothing on their fronts.

Sure, I mean, no big deal.

These kind of short-sighted business decisions are one of the reasons this business is where it is.

And while I understand Mrs. Hack's thinking, I also understand YGBFKM's. This is the love/hate relationship of the business we're in.

If you got a late edition of Birmingham, I'm not sure how I feel about that.

The tornadoes were absolutely huge and life-changing to the state. But Bin Laden is, well, Bin Laden.

    Interesting philosophical question.

Wasn't in last night, but the two guys who were did a kick-ass job of ripping all the "evergreen" local features off the front and making it an all-bin Laden page. Photos, AP locater map, quote box of reactions on the jump page (from which they were allowed to kill a half-page house ad to provide more space). They did a great job.

Of course, it helps that our shop is in the Pacific time zone. We always check for late-breaking wire news and have the flexibility to sub out a feature (or all of them) with breaking news if needed.

And yeah, last night it was needed!

It really ruined my Sunday night chill session in the newsroom. We went from smooth-sailing to HOLY CRAP almost in an instant and within an hour of deadline. Quite the adrenaline rush.

    Waiting for someone to say...

Still doesn't compare to a Friday night during football season.

S-T is my favorite, but nice job, Lynchburg.

Given the time allowed, Lynchburg did some fantastic work on what had to have been a crazy deadline.

Birmingham was an early run on the Newseum, its final is now posted and bin Laden is stripped across the top. The State is now the largest paper I've seen that doesn't have anything about bin laden.

As a total news nerd, I downloaded the entire paper as a PDF and not a single word. It must be a deadline issue.
