How accurate are these reports of annual salaries at the Los Angeles Times?

    Consider this: from what I understand, a decent house within 30 miles of L.A. starts at around $600,000 and I"m guessing apartments go for a few grand a month. Keep that in mind when interpreting any salary figures you hear out of that area.

    I would not be surprised if the salary numbers of Simers and Plaschke are correct.

    A friend of mine writes for the LA Times. They have been there a few years and do not have what would be considered a "top" beat and they make $105K a year.

    You have to remember what cost of living is down there as well.

    College writers at the Washington Post make in the 80s.
