Houston, you should have gone with Bush...

Better yet, trade down and take D'Brickeshaw, if they could. It's not always easy, but you would have to believe they would have found a way to do so.

Casserly had nothing to do with the Texans picking Williams... He was told by ownership that he better "sell the pick" to the media because Casserly is beloved by the media. Then, they showed him the door...

Mornecy was really, really good in the shadow of Tatum Bell at OSU.
There's lots of good players once you sort through each team's season-opening rosters.
In 90 percent of situations, if you make the final cut you are great. Period.
The greatest backs had good, good blocking.
O-lines make hall-of-famers and win teams titles.

Wali Lundy is about the most popular late-round sleeper pick in the nation this week.

The Texans' O-line is terrible. The video game version of Bo Jackson couldn't get a single yard with that line.

You might want to wait until either one of them plays a game -- or better yet, a year -- before making that declaration. I think we've all seen can't miss picks miss badly. Yeah, yeah, we all know Reggie's going to be the best ever. Unless he isn't.

You DO have a point. I mean, the Portland Trail Blazers will always remember the one that really, really got away from them.

No, I feel confident in making that declaration right now. We've seen can't-miss picks who have done just that. Say Reggie Bush were to miss, I still think he would finish with the better pro career -- or even season -- than Williams.

Williams would probably need 16 sacks this season to get everyone off the Texans' back.

Considering Wali Lundy is their current starting running back, Williams will need more than that.

    Through 13 games ...

    Mario Williams -- 27 tackles, 9 assists, 4.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery
    Reggie Bush -- 125-405-4 rushing, 79-687-2 receiving, 1 game-winning punt return

... Like we didn't see this coming the moment it happened draft day. Heck, Maurice Jones-Drew would have been a fine second-round selection. But hey, they know what they're doing, right?

  12. Another interesting comparison:

Julius Peppers rookie season (12 games because of suspension)

35 tackles (28 solo), 12 sacks, five forced fumbles.

Some NFL folks compared Williams to Peppers, but so far that hasn't been the case.
